Boundary Layer Energies in Discrete Systems: an Approach via Γ-convergence
Abstract
Object of this talk is the variational description by
convergence of the boundary layer phenomenon arising in pair-interaction lattice systems in a bounded set
.
We present several examples in phase transitions, fracture
mechanics, dimension reduction and spin systems physics in which
it is possible to show that, properly scaling the stored energy, a
non vanishing contribution due to the behaviour of the system at
the boundary of appears.
