Abstract
In this survey we consider the most important and general properties of a special class of iterative algorithms, which comprehend, e.g., the well-known Lagrange-Gauss algorithm of the arithmetic-geometric mean. We emphasize some functional equations connected with these algorithms, the problem of their convergence and their relation with a class of differential equations.
