Abstract
A kinetic study has been undertaken of the reaction between cis $[Pt(C_6H_5)_2(Me_2SO)_2]$ and 2,2’-bipyridine in the coordinating solvent acetonitrile, where the starting material is in equilibrium with the solvento species cis-$[Pt(C_6H_5)_2(Me2SO)(CH_3CN)]$.
The proposed reaction mechanism involves the dissociative loss of $Me_2SO$ and $CH_3CN$ respectively, assisted by the oxygen atom of the remaining sulphoxide.
