Abstract
In this work palaeobiogeography and palaeoecology of «cold» mammals that are spread in Italy during middle-late and late Pleistocene are considered. During the greatest glacial expansion phases many species adapted to «cold» environments enlarged the own areas of distribution reaching Southem Italy. Some of these formes live today as relicts in very limitated areas of high altitude in Italy. It’s shown that, besides strictly stenotherm formes, there ne species that tollerate wider climatic variaticns. Per this reason it’s necessary to evaluate the faunistical associations in their totality, instead of the single species separatly. In canclusion during the last glaciation most of the cold species enter in Italy.
