Abstract
Thiamine hydrochloride-Cu(II) complex has been prepared by reaction of thiamine hydrochloride and $CuCl_2.2H_2O$ in methanol and characterized by UV, fluorescence, IR and NMR spectroscopy. The physico-chemical properties of the compound suggest the formation of an adduct thiamine-$CuCl_2$ 1:1 in which the thiamine molecule is bonded to the metal by nitrogen atoms.
The significance of the findings is discussed in connection with the previously reported results on the role of the metal in the thiamine-acetylcholine system.
