Abstract
The reduction of a variety of 3,5-dinistro-2-pyridyl compounds with aqueous alkaline sodium borohydride has been studied. The structure of the reduced derivatives was examined with the aid of chromatography on thin layers and by physical and chemical methods. The relationship between the structure of the starting compounds and that of the modified compounds is discussed with regard to the reaction mechanism assumed. The simplicity and selectivity of the reaction makes it of synthetic value.
