Abstract
Although sphalerite has been quite commonly found, among ores of the fisure-veins scattered on the Peloritani Mountains (Sicily), greenockite has never been noted.
Researches started to detect epigenetic cadmium-bearing minerals, after that prelimenary investigations, about the presence of Cd in sphalerite-bearing ores, achieved positive rasults. Attention was drawn by som samples showing small sparse areas covered by very thin, yellov coatings or earthy films. These were tested, both chamically and by X-ray powder methods, showing that usually the yallow stuff is greenockite, but in some samples from outcrops, or very superficial diggings, instead of greenockite its water-bearing amorphus form xanthochroite is found.
