    Abstract

    The crystal structure of 12-Tricosanone has been investigated by X-ray powder diffraction patterns. The crystals are orthorombic, space group Pcam, with unit cell dimensions: $a$ = 7,55, $b$ = 4,90, $c$ = 62,3 A and Z = 4. The crystal structure has been determined by “trial-and-error” methods to R’ = 0,057; the structural results show the molecular packing characteristic of long-chain hydrocarbons having an odd number of carbon atoms. The introduction of a C = 0 group into the hydrocarbon chain does not substantially modify the fundamental packing.
