Abstract

The electrochemical behaviour of sulphur dioxide at a platinum electrode has been studied in DMF solution. Voltammetric and coulometric tests have shown that $SO_2$ undergoes an irreversible and quantitative reduction to form the anion radical $SO_2$ wich dimerizes to $S_2O_4^2^-$. Furtherly spectrophotometric measurements carried out during the electrolyses indicated the formation of the complex $SO_2$ $(SO_2)_2$
