Abstract
The rate of displacernent of $Cl^-$ in $trans$ e $cis$ $[Pt (PEt_3)_2 (R) Cl]$ (R = phenyl, o-tolyl and mesityl) by $CN^-$ has been studied in propan-2 ol water 6% mixture. The analysis of the relative reactivity in the two set of isomers gives some indication about the configuration of the transition state. It is shown that the literature data concerning the reactions of the same systems with pyridine are not suitable. The $trans$ complexes does not undergo the bimolecular attack by pyridine and the $cis$ complexes spontaneously convert into its trans isomers before or during their reaction with pyridine in ethanolic solution.
