Abstract
The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of benzonitrile oxide to the exocyclic double bond of 3-phenyl-4-benzyliden-isoxazol-5-one gives oxo-derivatives of the two isomeric bi-isoxazolinic spiro compounds. The major adduct have the already described structure corresponding to that of a bisheterocyclic 4,5’-spiro-2,2’-biisoxazolinic nucleus (C). The less abundant isomeric adduct, now identified, is derivative of the 4,4’-spiro-2,2’-biiso- xazoline (B). The different chernical behaviour of this isomer is described, including a very sensitive chromatic reaction which allows the identification of oxo-type (B) derivatives. The experimental evidence about the existence of the three theoretically possible types of spiro biisoxazolinic nuclei is now achieved.
In addition to described spiro compounds the reaction yielded also traces of an high melting product whose study is now in progress.
