Abstract
A kinetic study of the reaction between $[Pt (CO) Cl_3]^-$ and 2,2’ bipyridyl in acidic 95% aqueous methanol to give Pt (Bipy) $Cl_2$ is reported. Two stages were observed. The first one brings to the for mation of $[Pt (Bipy) (CO) Cl]^+$ by reaction of $[Pt (CO) Cl_3]^-$ with $BipyH^+$, In the second there is the slow replacement of CO by $Cl^-$ to give the final product.
