Abstract
A kinetic study of the reaction between dichloro (1,5-cyclooctadiene) palladium(H) and 2,2’-bipyridyl is reported. The proposed mechanism involves formation of the solvato species [Pd(l,5-COD)Cl(solv)]+, in an equilibrium reaction, followed by slow reaction with bipyridyl to give [Pd(1,5-COD) $(Dipy)]^2^+$. This reacts fast with Cl- giving the final product $Pd(Dipy)Cl_2$.
