Abstract
A kinitic study of the reaction between bis-(salicylaldheyde)copper(II) and N-but0amine is reported. Two stages were observed and the inverse dependence, in the first stage, on the methoxide concentration is interpreted considering a competition between $CH_3O^-$ and N-butilamine for an attack-site on the carbonyl carbon atom of the coordinated salicylaldheyde. The different behaviour of bis-(salicyialdheyde)copper(II) and bis-(salicylaldheyde)nickel(II) in the reaction with N-butilamine is also discussed.
