Abstract
The stabilizing effect of water on the decavanadate ion has been studied by IR spectroscopy on a number of decavanadates at different dehydratation levels. The results suggest particular relations existing in decavanadate stabilization by protonation in aqueous solution and by hydratation in solids.
The polyanion needs at least 2 water molecules in order to be stabilized. When they are removed, it decomposes giving products Whose nature depends on the type of the cations used.
