Abstract
The cobalt(II)-chloride system in methanol has been investigated by absorption spectroscopy in the visible region. Two complex species were identified with complexation ratios L/M = 1:1 and 2: 1 respectively, both of them with octahedral structure. The corresponding concentration quotiens at equilibrium and molar absortivities were evaluated. The obtained results may be interpreted considering the dielectric and donor properties of the solvent; comparisons were made with the data in other media (water and acetone).
