Abstract

After studying the structure of the thyroid connective tissue of Equus caballus and Equus asinus in different ages, the A. concludes by affirming that the capsule and the thyroid stroma are composed not only of collagen and elastic fibres, but also of smooth muscular fibres; that no increase in collagen and smooth muscular fibres is observed during adult and senile ages, while elastic flbres become more numerous and stronger through ageing; ad finally that collagen flbres and perifollicular reticular fibres depend on the functional degree of the secreting epithelium, so that collagen tissue is more abundant around large (hypofunctioning) follicles, while reticular tissue is more abundant around small (hyperfunctioning) follicles.
