Abstract
Notalgia paresthetica is a sensory disturbance involving the posterior branches of the lumbar nerves (from the second to the sixth nerve). Some authors ascribe the disorder to an increased sensory innervation. The main symptoms of the disease are pigmentation, itching and hyperesthesia. Histological axsamination reveals an increase of melanine in the basal layer, melanophages in the upper dermis and several necrotic keratinocytes in the epidermis. The differential diagnosis includes post-infiammatory pigmentation, neurodermatitis, fixed drug eruption and macular amyloidosis.
