Abstract

1. Endurance can be trained exercising between defined ranges of blood lactate concentration. This is valid for humans, it has to be demonstrated for horses.
2. The exercise speed which will produce the defined ranges of blood lactate concentration in a horse are determined with multiple step exercise tests.
3. The control of the exercise speed which should induce defined ranges of blood lactate concentration is done by measuring the blood lactate concentration immediately after exercise.
4. Control of the effects of training is done by means of regular repetition of multiple step exercise tests with the same protocol.
