Abstract

the aim of this paper is to illustrate how it is possible to draw useful ecological conclusions by applying a suitable multivariate statistical analysis. The method here proposed is the NonParametric Combination (NPC) of Dependent Permutation Tests, which proves particularly suitable in this class of research characterised by small dataset, whose variables often result in a larger number than the cases analysed. The problem is concerned with the microfossil content of peats related to the last glaciations maximum (LGM) in the area of Venetian Plain. Pollen and spore analysis of peat sediments and the identification of other plant fragments can contribute to the definition of past local hydrological conditions.
