We present stochastic models of nonlinear systems, in which the effect of the additive or multiplicative noise is pointed out. These models are useful to describe the light statistics in dye lasers, the population dynarnics and the phenomenon of stoschastic resonance. The nonlinear relaxation in the presence of an absorbing barrier is studied and nonmonotonic growth of fluctuations is found, outside the critical region. At the criticai point, scaling asymptotic behavior appears for the time average process. In a population dynamics model, the nonlinear relaxation is investigated in the stability and instability regions. Stochastic resonance is observed in a tunnel diode, and a nonmonotonic behavior of the output noise level as a function of the external noise is detected. Besides, the effect of the additive colored noise, on the average escape time from a periodically driven metastable state, is investigated.
