Abstract
In this paper we consider the heat propagation hyperbolic model for a rigid conductor proposed in [1] by M. E. Gurtin and A. C. Pipkin. By means of a Legendre transformation of the field variables, the governing equations may be written in symmetric and conservative form. Moreover we point out some properties concerning with exceptionality conditions and shock waves. Among other things we are able to characterize some functional forms for the free energy by which a weak discontinuity wave never breaks down.
