Abstract
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, such as a deficit in decoding emotional facial expressions. The aim of the study was to observe this deficit in PD patients without a cognitive impairment.
20 PD non-demented (MoCA≥ 23) patients divided into two groups (medicated and never-medicated) were compared to 10 age-education-matched Healthy Control (HC) volunteers. All subjects were administered with Ekman 60 to evaluate the ability to recognize faces with an emotional contain. Both PD groups performed worse than HC group, in particular in the recognition of fear and medicated group outperform never-medicated group.
Non demented PD patients present a deficit for facial emotion recognition.
