Abstract
This paper is aiming at emphasizing the advantages of both sex predetermination in mammals and the objectives which can be reached. After a short excursus on the applicability of this procedure on the spermatozoa of some domestic species (mainly on the basis of their DNA content), I will briefly explain the technique of sexing as well as its effects on the fertilizing ability of spermatozoa (also after long term storage by freezing). The different ways of utilizing sexed spermatozoa will be also mentioned, especially considering the difficulty to obtain high amounts of them and the consequent necessity to set up techniques of fertilization different from the traditional artificial insemination. At the end, the conditions necessary for an application on a large scale of the sperm sorting technology will be discussed.
