Abstract
In this work some results are presented regarding the characterization of signals which present discontinuity in the phase (jumps). THese signals are connected with the representation of the so-called Chandler frequency which is one of the main components of polar motion. The characterization is achieved in terms of the expansions of the ridge and of its curvature with respect to the amplitude and the duration of the jump, which show a first and a third order effect of these two parameters respectively.
