    Abstract

    The propagation of weak discontinuities in a inviscid radiative gas is considered. The fundamental transport equation governing the growth and the decay of the discontinuities associated to the waves has been obtained and solved. The problem of the "breakdown" of the weak discontinuities and the consequent formation og shock waves has been studied and an analytical solution for a particular initial surface has been derived and illustrated.
