Abstract

The dispersion law of collective excitations of extremely short wavelength propagating in liquid water can be measured by inelastic coherent neutron scattering in a narrow frequency range. As a consequence, the dispersion law that can be deduced from the experimental data is poorly defined. One may impose a classical linear dependence or a power law behaviour. The second possibility might represent localized excitations or fractons propagating inside the short lived low density patches present in liquid water.
