    Abstract

    In this note, we discuss the multifractal description of anomalous scaling laws in physical phenomena. It is derived in the context of fully developed turbulence in three dimensional fluid. We stress the thermodynamic nature of the approach and its equivalence with a theory of finite volume fluctuations.
    The main application fields of multifractality in physical phenomena are briefly discussed together with main successes and open problems.
