Abstract

Hypersonic velocity and normalized absorption of $n$-Pentanol $(n P_eOH)$ +2—Methyl—2—Butanol $(2M — 2B_uOH)$ mixtures were measured as a function of scattering angle and of $n P_eOH$ molar fraction, in the temperature range from —15°C up to 45°C. The experimental results indicate a shear relaxation phenomenon as the one detected on pure liquids. The temperature evolution of the viscoelastic parameters $(\tau_s and G_\infty)$ suggests that the mixing of the two isomers produces hetero alcohol aggregates. The results are analyzed in the framework of the Angell’s picture of “strong” and “fragile” liquids.
