    Abstract

    A large nurnber of CCD images of the Halley Comet and simultaneous Schmidt plates were taken at Catania Observatory from October 1985 to May 1986. Preliminary results show evidence of jets rotating with a period $T\sim52.5$ hours. The gas density falls off with distance as $r^-2$. The ground images taken close to the Giotto fly-by show evidence of boundaries observed «in situ» by Giotto and Vega. The observed different spatial distribution of $H_2O^+$ and $C_2$ is discussed in terms of the origin of either molecule.
