Abstract
The surveyed area is comprised between Big Lebombo Range and The Indian Ocean (R. P de Mocambique). It is characterizcd by the outcropping of Stormberg volcanic series and sedimentary formations. The sedimentary formations referable to the Singuedzi (Cretaceous), Mahel(Paleocene)), Delagoa(Miocene), Magude and fluvio-lacustrine l.s. (Plio-Pleistocene) Formations are prevailing sandy. They represent the beginnings and the developement of sedimentary basins, connected with rifting, sea floor spreading and fragmentation of Gondwanaland, which started during the Retic - Jurassic times. The sedimentation, whether marine or continental, was controlled by faults; it began in the Albian and persisted tili Mio-Pliocene, The sediment was repeatedly feebly uplifted with a big difference between the high value of the subsidence (4000 m.) and uplifting (150). These tectonic movements persisted till Pleistocene, infact some alluvial deposits outcrop at 50 m. above the present river bed; recently the tectonic stability of the present area permitted the advancing into the sea of the Incomati and Limpopo rivers deltas, that represent the present coastal plain, covered by eolian, sands.
