Abstract
Neem-based products including traditional preparations have been used extensively for the control of insect pests attacking agricultural crops. The content of phytochemicals extracted from different parts of neem, is different due to abiotic and biotic factors. So, the effectiveness of crude material or active ingredients such as azadirachtin, may be influenced by storage conditions, insects and their growth stage, synergism of products with other control measures. Here we discuss, firstly, the actions of neem phytochemicals on insect pests for future control strategies. In addition, animal and human studies carried out with neem and its constituents are also reported as different parts of the plant including flowers, leaves, seeds and bark have been used to treat both acute and chronic diseases.
