Lettere alla fidanzata (1898-1900)

Francesca Rizzo

Abstract

Gentile’s letters to Erminia Nudi (Le Lettere, Introduction by Hervé A. Cavallera) during their engagement, from 1898 to 1900, add almost nothing to what we know of him as thinker. But they unfold an extraordinary world of feelings, emotions, passion and allow the reader to enter the intimacy of a man in love. This is why these letters are to be enjoyed without looking for anticipations of theories, but for what they are in fact: the expression of the feeling of a young man who does not hesitate to wrtite: «How necessary to me you are, Erminia, authentic half of myself!» Only one regret: that Erminia’s answers have been not published.
