A New Methodology for Line Scratch Restoration
Abstract
Digital Film Restoration (DFR) is an evolving area of Image Processing aimed at studying methodologies and techniques allowing to reproduce digital copies of damaged movies that are as much as possible similar to the uncorrupted lost original, in order to preserve their historical and cultural value and to facilitate their diffusion through modern communication media. Research achievements in DFR still do not allow the development of automatic real-time systems enabling the solution of all problems related to DFR. In this work we present some methodologies and techniques for line scratch restoration, evaluating them through extensive numerical experiments on real image sequences.
