Second Gradient Model of Consolidation: a One-Dimensional Variational Approach
Abstract
Governing equations for a one-dimensional, second gradient porous system with a solid-material discontinuity are deduced using an extended Hamilton-Rayleigh variational principle.
Darcy-Birnkman dissipation is included in this model, while inertial effects are neglected.
The linearized problem is used to study the problem of the consolidation of a soil layer. First and second gradient numerical solutions are compared and discussed.
