Open Access Tools and Technology
Abstract
This paper aims to give an overview of the technology and software available to guarantee open access to scholarly literature.
These open source tools conform to the OAI-PMH standard to ensure a framework of interoperability independent of its application and based on the harvesting of metadata.
The main steps to implement an OA repository and an OA journal are briefly described.
Experiences from Messina University regarding the implementation of an Institutional Archive and a Portal developed using CDSware (CERN Document Server Software) illustrate this topic.
