IRENISMO ED EUROPEISMO IN ERASMO: PREGHIERE DI PACE E LAMPI DI GUERRA DAL PANEGYRICUS ALL’UTILISSIMA CONSULTATIO

Abstract

L’articolo prende spunto dallo studio che Vittorio de Caprariis ha dedicato al Panegyricus ad Philippum Austriae Ducem di Erasmo, per mostrare come l’ideale irenico dell’umanista olandese si sia evoluto, a partire da questo testo, fino a contemplare l’eventualità di una ‘guerra giusta’ se combattuta in difesa dell’Europa e dei suoi valori cristiani.

This article starts from the study of Vittorio de Caprariis about the Panegyricus ad Philippum Austriae Ducem, written by Erasmus. So the aim of this work is to show as the humanistic ideal of Peace, typical of Erasmus, developed in the idea of bellum iustum, a ‘right war’, if She is fought in defence of Europe and her Christian values.
