TRA SAPIENS E DEMENS: ALLA RISCOPERTA DELL’UOMO INTERO PERDUTO

Abstract

Una lunga tradizione scientifica e filosofica considera l’essere umano il trionfo assoluto della razionalità, escludendone passioni, sogni ed emozioni, ritenuti elementi irrazionali da trattenere e nascondere. L’uomo è l’homo sapiens per eccellenza. L’obiettivo dello scritto è mettere in luce le problematicità di una riflessione di questo tipo, che impoverisce l’uomo, lo scinde in parti e lo priva della sua storicità; ed evidenziare, invece, il valore fondamentale rivestito da quella parte demens, dalle sue emozioni, tanto per l’agire umano quanto per l’agire della Storia. A indicare il percorso sarà il pensiero di Edgar Morin e la sua epistemologia della complessità, intrecciata alla storia del robot Andrew, protagonista de L’uomo bicentenario di Asimov; metafora di un cammino di ricerca della propria individualità, compiuto tanto dal robot della narrazione fantascientifica tanto dall’essere umano.

A long scientific and philosophical tradition considers the human being the absolute triumph of rationality, excluding passions, dreams and emotions, considered irrational elements to be retained and hided. The human being is homo sapiens par excellence. The objective of the essay is highlighting the problems of a reflection of this type, which impoverishes the human being, splits him into parts and deprives him of his historicity; and underlining, instead, the fundamental value covered by that demens’ part, by emotions, for human action as much as for the action of history. The route will be traced by Edgar Morin’s thought and his epistemology of complexity, intertwined with the story of the robot Andrew, main character of Asimov’s Bicentennial Man; metaphor of a journey of research of one’s own individuality, accomplished as much by the robot of the science fiction narrative as by the human being.
