I limiti dell’Io: il narciso e l’altro nelle società multiculturali
Abstract
The heterogeneity that the presence of "other cultures" entails affects the same perception of the social reality in which we live and, often, the prevailing attitude is to barricade each others behind rigid and closed lines of behaviour and thought. These don’t facilitate the process of integration, foment or trigger forms of racism and xenophobia. Ego and ethnocentrism, inability to decentralize, lack of empathy may result in attitudes - consciously or not - of personal and cultural narcissism that pollute the relationship with the other. Useful, therefore, calling on Paulo Freire, to implement the process of awareness that allows us to cross our own mental borders to create forms of authentic encounter and structured on the value of humanity.
