Abstract
We study the dynamics of the cloud of virtual photons surronding the electron in a process of dressing that follows the sudden switch-on of the interaction between the electron and the quantized field. We see that, in order to describe a causal evolution of the cloud, we need to introduce a correlation function, whose correlated quantities, the position of the electron and the observable of the field, are taken at different times.
The results obtained in the dynamical case are compared to the cloud in the stationary case.
